We kept counting the stars each night
Thinking, “There are a million more,
And we’d never run out of them
In a lifetime so short and crisp.”
There wasn’t a day,
When we hadn’t waited for the night.
For, deep down we both knew
It had become our little habit.
The one we waited for, and cherished the most.
Blissfully unaware of how the next moment might be like,
We enjoyed the present; ceasing all ties with the world.
Until one day, when I left you forever.
Yet, that night, you were all smiles
Doing our routine.
Clutching your fingers into the blades of grass,
As if my hand were still in yours.
Conversing into the thin air,
As if you could see me nodding in acknowledgement.
And once again that day,
We fell in love.
He, with the stars I loved,
And me, with he whom I loved
